Laleggera in 1998, XVIII Compasso d’Oro award. In 2009 the project became part of the permanent collection of the Moma in New York.
The chairs, unique pieces, are signed and numbered by Pistoletto and Juan E. Sandoval.
“Mezzoterra Mezzomare” is the title of the installation created by Michelangelo Pistoletto and Juan Esteban Sandoval for Alias. The artists have drawn six different seas (Mediterranean, Baltic, Caribbean, Chinese, Black and Red) on 310 Laleggera chairs, the company’s best seller, designed by Riccardo Blumer and winner of the Compasso d’Oro in 1996. The chairs, ideally immersed half in the water and half on dry land, are hand-painted with different colors, to emphasize the geo-cultural diversity of the six seas and the cultural characteristics of the countries that overlook them.
The funds raised from the sale of the chairs, which represent the six seas of the project, will be donated by Alias to the non-profit association “Love Difference”, an artistic movement that promotes an Intermediterranean and multicultural policy, supported by the Pistoletto Foundation.
