Each product designed by Gaetano Pesce represents a stage in an expressive journey of a designer who researches and for whom research is inseparable from designing.
Ever since the 1960s when Gaetano Pesce was active in Group N, which operated in the context of Arte Programmata, it was clear that his interest in design was strongly intertwined with the expression of art. It is from this training, from these youthful interests, never abandoned, that the most provocative and innovative proposals for design and interiors are born.
The 543 Broadway chair represents one of the important stages of this journey. In fact, on the one hand it combines the logic of industrial production, of large numbers and low cost and on the other the form of art, the unique and non-reproducible object and, if “art is not a luxury but a desperate necessity”, this is certainly a way to make it accessible to all.
The 543 Brody chair has two innovative characteristics: the material of the seat and backrest in epoxy resin and the flexibility of the structure. The metal structure adopting steel springs, oscillates, flexes and sways accompanying the movements of those who are seated. All translated into a functional object but with a strong significant value.
